Welcome to our Course Catalog! Here you will find each class listed for Elementary, Jr. High, and High School. Classes are also organized by subject (Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Electives). Study Hall

  • Grades: 4-12

    Description: Any time a student is on campus (other than lunch), they must be enrolled in either a class or a study hall. Study hall is $25 per child, per hour and will be offered each hour of the day both days for 4th-12th graders.

Elementary Language Arts

    Description: This class is a fun and educational way for our beginner bookworms to learn grade-appropriate phonic rules. Phonics plays a big role in fluency and reading skills, which helps set the foundation for a student’s elementary education. In this class, we will work through the different phonetic sounds, tackle some tough phonics rules, and build recognition of them in context. We will spend time doing activities, games, and interactive notebooks to put our learning into practice!

    Description: Creative writing is a writing style that helps writers express themselves. It helps a writer use their imagination! Creative writing helps build critical thinking skills and writing skills. In this class, students will build confidence to write their own stories, poetry and learn to journal. We will be using many fun writing prompts and the WriteShop curriculum.

    Description: Using the Language Arts curriculum by Purposeful Design, students will learn phonics, grammar, spelling and writing. Students will also read a variety of literature, make lapbooks and a make fun, hands on projects to promote learning.

    Description: One of the most important things anyone can learn is how to use God’s gift of language well. In this class, students will learn punctuation, capitalization, the parts of speech, sentence structure, diagramming and more! Learning these fundamentals will help students improve their writing and communication skills, helping them to become a better thinker, speaker, writer, reader, and overall student. We will put the fun in FUNdamental grammar with various activities and games!

    Description: One of the most important things anyone can learn is how to use God’s gift of language well. In this class, students will learn punctuation, capitalization, the parts of speech, sentence structure, diagramming and more! Learning these fundamentals will help students improve their writing and communication skills, helping them to become a better thinker, speaker, writer, reader, and overall student.

    Description: Students will learn step-by-step instructions on how to take notes from a text, summarize it, and turn that work into something of their own that sounds even better than the original! It is a simple and fun way to learn the art of writing. This course will improve students’ vocabulary by teaching them how to use quality adverbs, adjectives, strong verbs, and more. Public speaking will also be taught through the retelling of the stories written. “Fables, Myths, and Fairy Tales Writing Lessons” is sure to be a great way to learn together!

    Description: Students can lose themselves in a world of myth and magic while learning important cultural history in this beloved classic collection of Greek mythology. Using D'aularies' Book of Greek Myths, students will learn about the greats of ancient Greece—gods and goddesses, heroes and monsters—described in great stories and beautiful pictures. This curriculum includes thought provoking, critical thinking questions. Students will also learn by reading other books together in class and creating projects to bring stories to life.

    Description: This class is designed to introduce 2nd and 3rd grade students to the fascinating world of animals in a fun and engaging way.     Description: Apologia’s classic Exploring Creation with Zoology 1: Flying Creatures of the Fifth Days. Your young student will learn all about the world’s flying creatures.     Description: In this class, students will use the scientific method to understand the process of asking a question, gathering information, and forming a hypothesis, followed by testing the hypothesis with an experiment. Students will learn about independent, dependent, and controlled variables, what to do when an experiment does not go as planned, and how to determine whether the hypothesis was supported! This class will help students develop a sense of curiosity and a drive to learn more about the world God has created, as well as problem-solving abilities and the ability to think critically. At the end of the year, students will demonstrate their ability to use the scientific method by participating in our science fair.

    Description: Do you love using science to solve problems or create cool inventions? If so, then this class is for you. We will use our knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and math to create and build amazing things out of everyday supplies. Students will work in groups to brainstorm, plan, design, and build their creations to help solve a given problem. This class will work through themes such as Newton’s Laws, home design, chemical and physical reactions, current inventions, and much more. There will be a small amount of writing in the form of data reports that will go along with each challenge. So, come along with me on an exciting adventure into the world of science as we work together to solve these exciting challenges.

    Description: Embark on an exciting adventure through the diverse landscapes of Arizona in our All Things Arizona class! Young learners will learn about the unique regions of the Grand Canyon State, from the majestic deserts to the towering mountains and lush forests. Get up close and personal with Arizona's fascinating wildlife and learn about the rich history of Arizona, from ancient Native American cultures to the Wild West and beyond.     Description: Our American heritage is composed of explorers, inventors, leaders, authors, pioneers, and soldiers. God used these men and women to help build America based on the teachings of the Bible. As students learn about these courageous men and women, they will develop an interest and love for the history of the United States! Students will also research a historical leader and participate in a wax museum to share what they have learned. In addition to historical leaders, students will learn to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, and learn about America’s symbols, landmarks, and monuments! Students will time-travel through history with crafts, music, stories, biographies, games, and more!

    Description: In Beginning Sewing, students will learn the art of hand sewing and embroidery.     Description: In this class we will focus on the Old Testament of the Bible. Our study will encompass looking at who wrote the books of the OT, the purpose of each book, the adventures in each book and discovering what God would like for us to learn from the Old Testament.     Description: Join us as we go over the basics of learning how to speak confidently and present to our peers. We will practice reading aloud, writing, memorization, and presenting! This class will be a great opportunity to practice writing and reading using fun material such as readers' theater. In this class, we will spend time going over different techniques and practices that aid in creating confident communicators! At the end of the year, we will work on combining the skills we have learned to research and write a paper that will be presented to the class.

    Description: Exploration and practice with various graphite and ink markers to learn to visually describe forms, textures, and space. Lettering ideas and styles for decorative communication and fun! Learn the progression of technology on the presentation of artworks. Create various drawings in genres such as still life, landscape, and modern abstracted renderings. Introduction to 1-point perspective drawing. Guided instruction to design and render a simple bedroom. Continued application of the principles and elements of design to better express your personal feelings.

They will learn to read and recognize the letters of the alphabet, colors, shapes, sizes, sight words, CVC words, and numbers, and count from 1-20…or higher. We will discuss the weather, learn the days of the week, months in a year, the four seasons and so much more! The goal is to create a positive experience for your little adventurer and support them as they adapt to new surroundings and learn to engage spiritually, emotionally, physically, and mentally.

    Description: This class will be split into two sections beginning with Lego Stem Projects and ending with Chess. Both semesters will be a journey that requires critical thinking and problem-solving.

    In the first half of the semester, the students will work on Lego STEM projects in groups of two. This will encourage students to work on team-building skills. They will build weekly projects and present them to the class.

    In the second semester, the students will learn the basics of chess and play tournament-style games. The students will build their skills throughout the remainder of the year. All levels of learners are welcome and are encouraged to help others.

    Description: Students will learn book construction in this class by applying the principles and elements of design to create hand-crafted journals for personal expression using various materials (printing blocks, acrylic paints, glue . . .) and methods (painting, drawing, collage, printing/stamping). Exploration of paper making. Understanding weights, content, and finishes. Learning to make our own collage papers for book decorations. Continued exploration and application of the elements of design: Balance, Emphasis, Unity, Variety, Rhythm, Pattern, and Proportion.

    Description: ‘52 Modern Manners for Kids’, is the perfect guide to help parents proactively and positively teach their kids what to do in difficult, sticky, or emotional situations. “These practical tips help children gain self-awareness and create habits that will set them up for meaningful relationships and polite interactions today and in the future.” - Brooke Romney

    In this class, my intention is to refresh your kid’s memory of simple manners such as: Please, Thank You, Yes or No, etc., and the “forgotten” manners such as bathroom manners, waiting for your turn to talk, keeping unkind thoughts to yourself, and so much more. Our class will be fun and interactive as we role-play ideas together, learn how to overcome challenges, and encourage deep conversations that will allow each child to discover and develop their own solutions.

Jr. High Language Arts

    Description: What is it that draws us to travel, or jump on a roller coaster, or sit on the edge of our seat in the movie theater? It is our innate hunger for adventure! And yet, we’ve forgotten that one of the best ways to embark on an adventure is through a truly great book. In Adventures in Literature, students will explore the lost art of going on literary adventures, spanning from a trek through Middle Earth to a shipwreck on the way to Australia, and everywhere in between. We will use these stories to dive deep into such key components of literature as theme, plot, characters, setting, literary devices, and personal application. Embark with us on a few of history’s most enduring and enticing adventures!

    Description: Chapter Chasers is a captivating junior high literature class that focuses on the joy of reading! Through a diverse selection of both fiction and non-fiction works, students will embark on a thrilling exploration of storytelling, character development, themes, and literary devices. From classic tales to contemporary masterpieces, students will hone their analytical skills, deepen their understanding of literature, and foster a lifelong love of reading.

    Description: In Creating Confident Writers, students will explore creative, expository, narrative, and persuasive writing through hands-on assignments. Students will learn new skills (including organizing their thoughts and writing descriptively), apply them to their writing projects, and engage in multiple rounds of editing and revision to produce polished compositions. With guidance and support, students will develop confidence in expressing themselves effectively in various writing styles, ultimately emerging as proficient writers ready to tackle any writing task with clarity and conviction.

    Description: English grammar can be boring, not to mention intimidating, but in this class your students will learn grammar in a fun way to boost their confidence as writers and communicators. Using IEW's Fix-It Grammar, students hunt for and correct errors in daily passages that cumulatively tell a story while building their grammar and editing skills. Students will learn all about capitalization, punctuation, sentence structure, the eight parts of speech, basic diagramming, and so much more in this fun format class. We will also practice definitions and vocabulary to increase their skills. Join me for a year of discovering how amazing our English language really is!

    Description: This course is designed to be a fun, hands-on course to develop students' understanding and proficiency in grammar, literary analysis, and writing skills essential for success. Through a combination of interactive lessons, hands-on activities, and real-world applications, students will develop mastery in various language arts components while gaining valuable insights into academic writing formats.     Description: This course provides a strong foundation for work with functions and culminates with an introduction to calculus topics. Beginning with a review of polynomial functions, the study progresses to exponential and logarithmic functions, trigonometric functions and identities, vectors and polar coordinates, systems and matrices, and sequences and probability. This course requires the TI-83 graphing calculator and teaches students how to use it. If students have not taken Algebra 2 with Mrs. Vandenboom, a placement test is required.

    Description: This introductory course provides students with foundational knowledge and skills in the care and prevention of athletic injuries. Students will learn about common sports-related injuries, their causes, appropriate treatment methods, and return to play. Emphasis will be placed on injury prevention strategies and rehabilitation techniques. Through a combination of classroom lectures, practical demonstrations, and hands-on exercises, students will develop the competencies necessary to assist athletes in maintaining optimal health and performance. As part of the knowledge base, students will learn basic anatomy, anatomical function, rehabilitation protocols, taping and bracing techniques, basic triage, first aid, CPR, and concussion protocols.
