Steve Pettis

Steve is originally from the L.A. area in Southern California but grew up moving frequently. His dad was in the army, then a pastor, and then his parents were missionaries for the Church of the Nazarene in Bermuda, Portugal, and the Azores. As a result of their constant movement, Steve attended high school in three different countries during his freshmen year and by the time he was 21 he had lived in 21 different places.

When Steve graduated, he moved back to the States and went to college at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego. He graduated with a degree in Athletic Training and a teaching credential in PE. He then received his master’s degree in Biomechanics from San Diego State University. After college, he remained in San Diego and worked as an athletic trainer and teacher at several public high schools for 25 years until moving to Arizona in 2020. He primarily taught athletic training classes but also PE and Special Education, as well. As the athletic trainer, he was responsible for the health, injury prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation of all athletes on campus. He worked with students from the local middle school and people from the community as well. His responsibilities included being at all home athletic events and acting as the first responder to all injuries, including those of players from the other team. He worked with approximately 500 athletes across 25 sports, each year.

While working at the high school, he also became involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, an organization that works with high school and college athletes, introducing them to Christ, giving them an opportunity to grow and learn about Him in an athletic setting, and teaching them how to glorify Christ through their sport and share their faith with others. He continues to work with FCA at their different sports camps throughout the year.

Steve has two kids of his own. His daughter Eden is 15 and is a junior in high school. She loves music, art, and enjoys playing tennis. His son Seth is 13 and is an 8th grader. He loves to build and create whatever he can think of. He’s also very active and enjoys playing tennis, soccer, and swimming. Both of his kids were homeschooled until 3 years ago and now attend Fourteen Six Christian Academy in Surprise. When Steve is not working or getting the kids to their activities, he loves to be active himself. He loves to play pretty much any sport, but his favorite activities are soccer, basketball, and surfing. He also enjoys reading.
