Carter Milam
Carter was born and raised in a Christian home in Memphis, and could either be found at church or a park playing basketball while he was growing up. Carter was always sure God was calling him to serve the Kingdom but was not sure exactly how. After graduating with a degree in Secondary Education, he went into ministry during his final semester of school and has never looked back. Carter also recently completed his Master of Divinity at GCU. He has been in ministry for nearly seven years in both Tennessee and Phoenix, and he is currently the Youth and Family Pastor at Canyon Church.
His ministry has included everything from driving the van to pick up students, leading after-school programs, leading camps and mission trips, and simply introducing students to Jesus through studies and conversations. Carter is still on a journey of discovery and wonder with Jesus, and is trying to bring students with him on that journey.
Carter spent time both homeschooled and in public school, and his family is heavily involved in the homeschool community in Memphis. His homeschooling journey included a competitive basketball team that participated in national tournaments for homeschooled students, as well as cheering on friends in other sports or going to classes together. That community was an important part of his life and is a large reason he wanted to work with Ignite. Carter is excited to see what God is up to at Ignite with the opening of this third campus in the North Valley!
Saving the best for last, Carter is married to Emma (also teaching at Ignite!), and they have two wonderful little boys and three wonderful (most of the time) dogs. He enjoys hiking and camping with his family, as well as mountain biking and reading.
